Tanis Frame (The Maven)
Tanis Frame (aka the maven) has a background in facilitation, research, toxicology and children’s environmental health. As the parent of a toddler with a second on the way, she can personally relate to the information overload that today’s parents face.
Several years ago, as a brand new parent, faced with endless options and conflicting advice and research claims that often come from someone who’s trying to sell you something, from baby toys to diapers, life with and for baby became overwhelming.
After almost 3 years of trial and error, oodles of research, and a lot of discussion with fellow parents and birth and parenting professionals was born. The idea was to do the research on behalf of new parents and to support parents in making informed choices that will work best for their family.
Tanis wanted to create a supportive venue for parents to gather high quality knowledge free of guilt or pressure; a space that respects that the “right choice” is different for each family.
Tanis’ fun, engaging, and compassionate personality is a welcome treat for new and expecting parents. She has always generously shared her knowledge with any parent who asks, she is now very much looking forward to sharing it with a broader network of parents through the workshops. The Maven’s Support Crew
No maven can exist without a knowledgeable and supportive network. The depends on a broad group of fellow mamas to stay on top of the “stuff” of parenthood. She also depends on them to support her on those tough days in the parenting trenches, and to celebrate the highs that only our kids can bring. A few mamas deserving special mention here:
Christine Nielsen (Webmistress Extraordinaire):
Tanis and Christine go way back, having played competitive ultimate Frisbee and winning a world championship gold medal together. Their friendship took on a whole new level as they entered the journey of motherhood less than two weeks apart. Christine is proud mama to Jasper (3.5 years) and Griffin (almost 1 year!). Christine is also the mastermind behind the website. And yes, her online prowess definitely extends into the shopping realm! This mama is in the know, and if she ain’t, she’s quickly on line finding out!
Cindy Hubbard (Cow Town Correspondent):
Cindy and Tanis did their Masters degree together in Vancouver, dabbled in work together and have since shared their journeys into motherhood. Cindy is proud mama to Alex (2.5 years). She has a wide network and is always finding out about great stuff for mamas. Cindy has recently moved to Calgary and keeps the Maven in the know about all the cool new products and ideas coming out of cow-town. She has kindly kept her Vancouver cell number so that she and the Maven can connect any time for one of their great mama-to-mama chats.
Galen Hutcheson (Eco-Fashionista and Bag Lady):
Galen and Tanis first crossed paths when their girls were wee babes at the wading pool- and have since made it a regular part of their summer-time weeks. Galen is proud mama to Lily (2.5 years)and baby girl Zephyr, and keeps the bar high for fashionistas everywhere. They are officially the coolest dressed pair wherever they go. Galen shares the maven’s passion for treading lightly on the earth, while never taking ourselves too seriously. That is until we’re searching for the PERFECT mama-bag. That is serious business my friend.
